§ 200 G Slender

In English words beginning with gl, gr, the g is always given the broad G sound. In Irish words commencing with gl, gn, gr, we must not forget to pronounce the slender g properly. Thus —

gleann is pronounced gil-aN' or glaN
greann is pronounced gir-aN' or graN
grinn is pronounced gir-in' or grin
gné is pronounced gin-ae or gnae
grian is pronounced gir-ee'-an or gree-ăn
