Dynasty Notes

The 28th Dynasty is also known as the First Persian Period, for all the rulers during this time are foreign kings. Most held the throne in Persia as well as nominally ruling Egypt, although most of them never even visited the remote land they declared soverignty over.

The focus of most of htese kings was to war with Athens, with Egypt falling a far second in interest. A few built monuments in Egypt. Most f the day-to-day rule seems to have been placed with regents and satraps in control of Egypt who answered to the King and sent tribute and service to him.

This dynasty holds the rule of one of the great leaders of history, Darius I, "the Great", and many leaders well known by Greek historians. The common chronology is:

Cambyses
Darius I
Xerxes I
Artaxerxes I
Xerxes II
Sogdianus
Darius II
Artaxerxes II
