Titulary
Artaxerxes II took the throne of Persia and was recognized in the southern parts of Egypt as the "legal" pharaoh. It is unclear to me whether he was the older or younger brother, as it is stated that he defended his position as king against his brother, Cyrus, who died in battle at Cunaxa in 401 BCE. Provincial governors also revolted against his rule, and this set the stage for the Egyptian ruler, Amyrtaois, to take the throne as the sole ruler of the 28th Dynasty. |
