a view of the castle from Gallarus Oratory

One of the many towers that we could SEE and just not get any closer to! We obviously didn't have the right directions, since this is a National Heritage Site linked to Gallarus Oratory. Hmph.

It's an inecrebily well-restored castle in the care of the State. The tower is four storeys, and is one of the few restored medieval structures in Kerry. All traces of an original fifth storey and battlements are gone. Restoration has added stairways between the first few levels, and there are mural chambers in the east and north walls.

It dates from the 15th century, built by the FitzGeralds.
