The walls of the original Cloghjordan castle are incorporated into a much later building. It is a Norman tower. This is only tentatively identified - I have no further information on the location. The original tower house here was owned by the Carroll's, and was incorporated into a t-plan house by James Harrison in the 1650s/1660s. The tower still has plaster and is covered in ivy - not much is left of the original fabric of the buidling. The tower was lowered in the 19th century to form an wing of the house. |
