Titulary
There is some question as to whether Siptah actually ruled Egypt alone. It is very possible that he was under the regency of his step-mother Tawosret and Chancellor Bay for the whole of his life. If he did rule, it was for a brief time when his older brother, Seti-Merenptah, died before his father. Because Siptah was young -- possibly only fourteen or so -- , his step-mother became his regent. Siptah died after only six years on the throne, at the age of 20. HIs mummy, which shows signs of his club food, was found in the KV 35 cache, although KV 47 was decorated for him. His red granite sarcophagus, shaped like a cartouche, was found inset into the floor. There were bones found in it, but they were from a later burial, probably in the Third Intermediate Period. |
