Burial Place
Tomb Z in Abydos, just west of Djer's tomb. The tomb
is quite small -- 9.3 x 11.9 x. .8 m, and may have been
intentionally burned, as only charred remnants of what
may have been a wooden floor remain. There are 174 subsidiary
burials nearby. |
A huge mastaba in Saqqara is associated with Djet, and
decorated with 400 bulls heads and genuine horns around
the walls. This may be for a highly placed retainer
to the king, not to the king himself. |

History
Mostly known by a stela with his name (that is displayed at
the Louvre in Paris, shown left), Wadj is attested to only by a few inscriptions
near Edfu and mentions of him in his wife, Merneith's, tomb.
His tomb is different from his predecessors in that there are
small rooms surrounding the burial chamber that are within the
building itself, much like later mastabas. The grave chamber
was looted shortly after the burial, and the wooden roof and
lining of the rooms were set afire. They were restored later
(by Qa'a) and restocked with offering goods.
