Miscellenaous Stuff

Since nearly everything in the tour was included, we only had to manage the little stuff -- like tips, bottled water, a few meals.

Bottled water, 2 (1 1/.2 liters) bottles a day 24 days @ $6
$144
Tips - bathroom attendants, camel drivers, caretakers at tombs, and our guides
~ $750
Meals not included in the tour
~$150
Gifts and doodads to bring home
$450
Camera Fees
$45
Laundry
$80

I think that we went with about $2000US in cash/travelers checks, and changed roughly a thousand of it for miscellaneous expenses.

Note that tips to guides and drivers is optional -- although expected. Figure about $5 per day per person in the tour for a guide and $2-3 per day per person for a driver. If you're in a tour with more than just yourselves, then everyone will pool money together and the tips will be paid from there. Since it was just us, and they had to do the same work, we tiipped about $50/day to our guides and $25 to our driver (on the suggestion of the tour operator). It may have been excessive, but they were really good to us. To be honest, we had staff during most of our stay - a tour manager, a guide, and a driver at our beck and call. It was kind of odd..

We tipped the guide and driver after each segment of the trip -- when we moved on to the next city, we would handle it, even if we intended to come back and have the same people.
