Here is a beautiful waltz, suitable for parlor, concert of ballroom. It is written in the key of G, with F# in the signature which of course sharps all F's.

Be careful to use the 4th finger whenever marked. Begin this waltz very slowly, keeping an even count until you can play it without an error and then increase the speed until you can play it in regular waltz time.

In the 5th measure of the 3rd staff there is a grace note which has been explained heretofore as HAVING NO TIME VALUE. It borrows what little time it gets (which is about the time of a 32nd) from the A which comes after it. At first however you need not place it at all; just omit it until after you have learned the piece perfectly, then introduce it is you please, exactly on the 1st beat of the measure.

The curved line with a dot under it, (which resembles a bird's eye) over the double bar, signifies the end of the piece. The word "fine" means finish or end of No. 1.

The 1st strain does not repeat, but the 2nd strain does.

Pay particular attention to the accidental sharps and naturals in this strain.

Be sure to get G# fully a half inch higher up on the finger-board than G, also the accidental C# in the 7th measure of the 4th staff. This must be very close to the 3rd finger "D". Indeed if your fingers are large, you will have to squeeze the 3rd finger very close to the 2nd to avoid making D too high or C# too low. Be very careful to get these notes in time, as well as those in the following measures.

Here we have F#-G#-A#. Play G# a full inch higher than F#, and play A# with the 1st finger on the A string a little more than 2/3 of an inch above the nut, and then slip it up a little to make B.

The bracket over the last 2 measures of this strain with the figure 12 under it, signifies "first ending" and the one with figure 2 signifies "2nd ending."

This strain repeats, and the 2nd time you play it, omit the 1st ending and play the 2nd ending in its place.

"D.C. al fine" means to go back to the beginning and play to the word "fine", then jump to No. 2.

No. 2 is in the key of D, therefore you must play F# and C#.

Measures 3 and 4 are bound together by a tie which sustains the note A for 4 counts.

In measures 5,6,and 7, are slurs indicating that the notes under those slurs are to be played with one stroke of the bow. The 2nd of No.2 repeats.

Pay particular attention to the slurs and ties, last strain which is the same as 1st strain excepting that it is played legato. N.B. When writing always mention instrument. Confine your questions to ONE LESSON ONLY. Give name of lesson, number of staff, number of measure, and be brief. Give full name and address.
