Lockhouse Castle
just a glimpse from the road
16th Century tower house
This is a well-restored three-storey tower with an attic, built in the 16th century. The corners are rounded. There are corbells for a walkwalk, but that has been replaced by the current framed attic. The tower is 11m x 8.3m.
Internally, a spiral stair leads from the entranceway to the first-floor hall, although the interior has been altered by modern restoration in the 1980s and is currently occupied as a private residence
Ownership
The property belonged to the Johnstones of Corehead in the 16th and 17th centuries.
